Macro Food

Amongst the goodies which the sister brought back with her from Oz was her collection of lenses, one of which is the Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 macro.  When we had the old girls over for dinner on Sat, it gave me a chance to break into it by taking shots of all the delicious food the sister served up. :-)

First up – ingredients for our starter of Vietnamese spring rolls:

Cucumber slices

Enoki mushroom

Lettuce leaves

Carrot strips

Basil from our garden

Then for mains, there was spag with mussels in pesto sauce:

Sides was a sweet potato mash:

For meats, we had roast lamb leg:

And yummy tu-kar courtesy of Li’s mummy:

And finally, dessert!

Creme caramel in their lil pots

Voila! The finished product in its crowning glory

I hope the pics did the food justice because everything tasted awesome that night. Tis the season for piling on the pounds. :-P

Some house plants and an attempt at super macro

Some not-so-random pictures of plants around the house:

Ever since the mother retired, the oldies have developed green fingers. Or at least they THINK they’ve developed green fingers since their new plant acquisitions have an uncanny knack of dying on us. :-P There was a time when we’d visit the plants section of Sunday Market every weekend to get new stuff for the garden. All well and good except the oldies seem to have a knack for choosing the hottest and sunniest Sundays to go all the time. -_- Ehhh, before you think I’m some white chick freak, let me clarify that I don’t have a thing against the sun. I only have a thing against humidity and sweat. :-P In fact, I love being brown (as in skin colour) and can’t stand this Asian obsession with being white. To me, white looks like you’re ill or anaemic or something or other. :-P Besides, don’t you think being tan is a symbol that you’ve actually had time to go on a holiday whereas being all pek-pek means being stuck behind your desk for far too long? But I digress, this is a post about house plants afterall. :-) Oh, and about my attempt at super macro too.

Wombok’s posts on super macro and the how-to got me really intrigued on the subject. I just had to try it out for myself to see if it really does work. Yeah, us loyars are super skeptics and cynics. So this is a macro shot of my cross and chain:

And this is the super macro shot of the stone:

Whaddaya know, it really does work afterall! :-D
